Project Background

Morongo Casino Resort & Spa (hereafter “Morongo Casino”) is a Native American luxury resort and casino near Palm Springs built in 1995. Morongo Casino offers Las Vegas style gaming alongside upscale accommodations on the Morongo Reservation.

The resort has 310 rooms and suites. A 44-acre, 27-story resort, Morongo is one of the largest casinos and one of only six AAA four-diamond casino resorts in California. At 330 feet high, the casino tower is the tallest building in both Riverside County and the larger Inland Empire region.

System Background

Morongo Casino started an expansion project in January 2019. The expansion project includes installing a 13,000 sqft. CCHP system to increase energy independence, provide more reliable power and save operational costs for the casino.

The system is designed to have four gas engines to provide environmentally friendly electricity production and three diesel-fired backup engines. To increase energy efficiency, two exhaust heat recovery boilers and one BROAD 1,100-ton absorption chiller were installed with two centrifugal chillers together to provide cooling, heating and hot domestic hot water for the resort.

Project Value

This 24/7 trigeneration system increases the energy resilience and reliability, and enables the resort to operate in island mode. Fed by the waste heat of the trigeneration plant, the BROAD absorption chiller provides 1,100 tons of “free” cooling, reducing 4,047 MWh of electricity for cooling and saving over 0.5 million dollars in electricity costs annually*

The system saves 52,371 MMBtu of fuel compared to the conventional system. System annual carbon dioxide reductions: 13,842 metric tons, which is equivalent to carbon sequestered by 228,880 trees grown for 10 years.

BROAD Lease Buyout Option

Benefits of BROAD Chiller Lease Buyout:

To help customers gain access to BROAD equipment without purchasing it in up front and have a better cash flow, BROAD provides an 8-year lease buyout option for Morongo Casino that the customer only need to pay a certain amount of money annually to gain access to BROAD equipment with a full range of maintenance services.

●Conserve and Control Cash: Does not require a significant down payment, fixed yearly payments for the full term of lease that helps customers budget more effectively and have a more flexible cash flow to grow customers’ business.

● Expedite Budget Approval: Leasing equipment uses less departmental budget since payments are made monthly or annually over a multi-year period instead of all up front. As a result, the budget approval process is faster.

● Lower O&M Costs: One considerable benefit of leasing is lower O&M costs by outsourcing the ownership function to the manufacturer. In a lease buyout agreement, BROAD provides all inclusive service and maintenance, ensuring customers always have reliable equipment and negating the need for inhouse technicians.

● Longer Equipment Lifespan: professional service and maintenance directly from the manufacturer keeps the equipment operating in good condition, prolonging the life of the equipment.
