Manhattan, New York —— BROAD U.S.A. hosted its Annual Customer Appreciation Event at Gansevoort Meatpacking Hotel on December 12th to celebrate the successful commissioning of its high-efficient maglev chiller BC45, a 150-ton oil free centrifugal chiller deployed at the iconic hotel in Manhattan Chelsea neighborhood.

The maglev chiller’s high efficiency helped the building to save tremendous energy in the peak hours and save a huge cost to their energy bill. Michael Achenbaum, Building Owner of Gansevoort Meatpacking Hotel; Shameer Joey Sadloo, Chief Engineer Shameer; Katherine Willis, Account Manager and Denise Milianta, Service Provider Specialist of NYC Accelerator under the NYC Mayor’s Office of Climate and Environmental Justice, were honored to be our guest speakers at the event.

Michael Achenbaum, Building Owner of Gansevoort Meatpacking Hotel remarked, “As a family-run business, we felt the need to add more tonnage when we had more 90-degree summer days. We installed the 150-ton unit and we had a couple of months to use it before the peak season. It’s terrific. The team of BROAD were really working with the government agency, taking care of the process of the insulation, and getting the rebates for us. We’re really appreciated that they fell on our side and got the rebates that we’re entitled to. We’re very happy to work with Eric and the team, and hopefully we’ll have tremendous savings when it moves forward. This one change, although a tremendous physical cash-out flow, will save us tremendous amounts of money with the compliance of Local Law 97.”

Katherine Willis, Account Manager, NYC Accelerator mentioned, “We want to really recognize this project. This maglev chiller at Gansevoort Meatpacking Hotel is going to reduce the natural gas consumption by 18,000 plus thermos and there are many VFDs installed which will save over 300,000 kW/hr consumption of electricity, which is very important for Local Law 97 compliance. All those savings together, including the carbon emissions, the energy savings, the penalty avoidance really add up in the era of climate change.”

Denise Milianta, Service Provider Specialist of NYC Accelerator added, “On behalf of NYC Accelerator, we want to deliver our heartfelt thanks for BROAD U.S.A.’s valuable participation as a service provider in the NYC Accelerator program. Their commitment and contributions have been pivotal driving for our ambitious goals in decarbonizing the city. Their expertise and innovative solutions enhanced the program effectiveness and their dedication to creating a greener and a more sustainable urban environment aligns perfectly with the visions of New York City. The impact of their involvement extends far beyond the scope of this program. It really sets the benchmark of excellence and demonstrates the significant role of forward-thinking organizations like BROAD U.S.A. play and shape a more sustainable world.”

Eric Gong, BROAD U.S.A. NY Service Director, and Project Manager wrapped up Gansevoort energy upgrade project and said, “Selected as a general contractor, we designed and built this project and successfully commissioned the chiller. We installed BROAD’s maglev chiller in the hotel, which allows the compressor to operate without using oil for lubrication and making it frictionless. The built-in Variable Speed Drive on the motor allows the compressor to operate much more efficiently at partial loads. The oil-free system also eliminates the need for oil maintenance, resulting in operations and maintenance savings. The new chiller’s IPLV is 0.35kw/Ton. Additionally, it consists of modular and multipiece rigging through regular elevators and doors. The single piece of the new machine weighs less than 2000 lbs. leading to reduced capital cost. The oil-free maglev chiller is ideal for building retrofitting or new construction projects. We also took the lead and helped the building owner to receive an incentive package of $103,053.86 from ConEd, which was an equivalent of 16% of the total project cost.”

Our long-term customers, partnered architects and designers, building managers and engineers had chances to have onsite machine room tours during the event. The wonderful night ended up with lucky draws, amazing NYC skyline views, fantastic live music and food at Greenhouse Rooftop.
